An Oakville high school student has been named one of this year's three winners for the 2024 Harvard Book Prize.

The Harvard Book Prize, an annual award presented by the Harvard Club of Toronto, is awarded "to recognize outstanding academic achievement, exceptional personal qualities, and a commitment to community leadership among high school students," according to the club.

This prestigious award "aims to inspire future generations of leaders and scholars to strive for excellence in all areas of their lives."

For this year's winner, the Harvard Club chose to honour Brenton Wong, the 2024 Harvard Book Prize recipient at Oakville Trafalgar High School (OTHS) on Nov. 25. The award was presented by HCT Executive Board Members Pierre Chen and Nancy J. Coombs.

Brenton, one of three recipients in the greater Toronto area, embodies the spirit of the prize with his academic achievements, dedication to his community, and exemplary character. This annual tradition was started by Harvard alumni in 1910.

The ceremony also highlighted the strong connection between OTHS and the Harvard Club of Toronto, which is one of the oldest Harvard alumni organizations in the world, founded in 1904.

With OTHS’s long-standing history since 1908, both share a commitment to celebrating heritage and community engagement while fostering academic distinction and leadership.
