In 1965 the Society created Art in the Park to promote local artists and artisans, and today this show has blossomed into Oakville’s premiere art event.
We are thrilled to be again offering one of the best fine arts festivals in the country and are excited this year about many new additions, including the always popular Beer Garden, catered this year Catering by Heat, and entertainment by various musicians.
Featuring more than 175 artists and artisans from across the country, the event attracts over 3300 people to the Bronte waterfront. Visitors to the 2013 show will see the return of some of the same artists as in previous years, as well as some who have never participated before. Artists come from far and wide - this year there are artists from Quebec, British Columbia and as far away as the Bahamas.
Every medium is represented, from traditional oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings to glass, ceramics, textiles, photography, mixed media, sculptures and fine jewellery.
Visitors will get to meet the artists and learn about the works they have created. Works of art range from just a few dollars to over a $1000. All the art work is original and juried, which ensures wonderful technique, beauty and quality. Being able to buy directly from the artist cuts out the dealers, making it extremely accessible. Most of the work is priced between $100 to $300.
Another much-anticipated aspect of the event this year is the Licensed Beer Garden Catered by Heat. “We think this is a great event for all of Oakville and we are so excited to be a part of it this year,” said Doug Greco, owner of Heat and several restaurants (Cucci, Firehall and the newly opened Plank) in the Bronte area.
Adding a distinct laid-back feeling to AiP 2013 will be the relaxing, breezy tunes by the entertainers who will make sure to put visitors into a summertime mood.
Located at the Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park (Bronte Road & Ontario Street). Admission to the Art in the Park is $5.00 and children under 12 enter free. Admission paid to get into Art in the Park Art plays a crucial role in the life of the Oakville Art Society. It affords the OAS an opportunity to raise funds to subsidize programming and act as a venue for furthering interest and knowledge of the world of art. The Oakville Art Society is a registered charity, which provides the Oakville art community with an excellent work space for its 150 to 200 members. There are excellent art programs for adults and children, as well as an art bursary to a budding high-school artist looking to further their study.
