CCAH kicks off Black History Month with Oakville Centre showcase

Hundreds gathered for speeches, musical performances and more from the Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton

The Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton (CCAH) has begun Black History Month with an incredible event on Monday night that was hosted at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts.

The event launched their slate of Black History Month showcases with the main theme this year being Creating Harmony.

CCAH Board President Sheldon Williams felt it important to make this year's theme Creating Harmony.

"Look at the world right now, we need to come together as a community, as a nation, and as a globe and start to work together," said Williams to Oakville News.

The presented showcase featured several different people take the stage to either perform or speak to the audience.

Featured was a terrific performance by singer Natasha Waterman where she wowed the audience with her incredible vocals.

After her performance, the CCAH Steel Band and Parang Ensemble took the stage and played amazing music with several different instruments such as guitar, piano, and of course steel pan drums.

Once their performance concluded, then Dr. Natasha Henry-Dixon took the stage and delivered a speech to the audience.

She recounted several different times during Canadian history that people from many different backgrounds came together to help fight racism and injustice showing the power of harmony and working as a unit.

After Dr. Henry-Dixon's powerful speech, the final performance of the night took place featuring gospel choir Kevin Adams and Voices of Praise where the group energized the crowd and had people smiling before the night came to an end.

A wonderful night for everyone involved and a great way to start Black History Month.
