Locals came together this morning, Dec. 6, 2024 at the Elgin Promenade to support Alexandra Guthrie, a single mother battling stage four cancer, at Glamjulz’s Three Little Wishes Dance Party fundraiser.
The Three Little Wishes campaign, which was started by Glamjulz founder Monica Graves, supports families who are struggling with the financial burdens of cancer and was hoping to raise $1,500 for Guthrie. By the start of the party this morning, more than $2,500 had been raised already.
“I’m so happy to see everyone here,” Graves said. “Alex is doing the treatment and doing everything she should be, and I really believe that when we gather like this and spread joy and love and healing, it all helps. We’re going to make sure that Alex is the unicorn.”
Guthrie was diagnosed with stage two breasts cancer when her three-year-old daughter, Sadie, had just turned two.
After chemotherapy and multiple rounds of radiation, Guthrie believed that she was cancer free until late 2023 when a CT scan showed that the cancer had not only returned, but had spread to her liver, lungs and spine and become stage four.
Proceeds from ticket sales and sales of Glamjulz’s jewelry at the event went toward the Three Little Wishes fund, with each ticket purchased giving attendees a chance to win a small Christmas tree. The tree was won by Burlington resident Judie Kavanagh, who immediately donated it to Guthrie.
The Three Little Wishes campaign has been making a difference in the lives of cancer patients for more than a decade.
“I’m really excited because we’re celebrating 15 years of Three Little Wishes this year,” Graves said. “It all started when we found out that a close family friend had cancer. I had been crying and crying, but my husband said ‘Hey, why don’t we do something for them?’ The people who we helped then had triplets, three little miracle children, and from there we decided to call it the Three Little Wishes campaign.”
Hot food and drinks were provided at the dance party by Tribeca Coffee and JC’s Hot Bagels, and the music was handled by Toronto M.C. DJ 9.
