NEWS RELEASE
BURLINGTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY
*************************
Did you know? Burlington has a connection to the Juno Beach Centre in Normandy, France.

It is operated by the Juno Beach Centre Association in Canada, a non-profit organization based in Burlington, Ont.

On June 6, 2003 D-Day Veteran Garth Webb (and proud Burlingtonian) officially opened the Juno Beach Centre stating. “This is the beach where Canadian soldiers stormed ashore 59 years ago”,

The Burlington Historical Society made a donation to the Juno Beach Centre in 2024 - and in return were sent a Canadian Flag that had once been flown at the Centre over the beaches of Normandy.

You can SEE the Juno Beach flag and learn more about Canada's role in both World Wars at the Burlington Historical Society meeting Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. at Burlington Central Library.

People know about the Canadian and German trenches during the Great War, and who were the Defenders and who were the Aggressors.

But do we know which was which?

Are stories of France's farmers STILL finding old bits of armaments from WWI true?

The RCAF celebrates its 100th anniversary 1924 - 2024. However - RH Bullock of Burlington has a pass for one day June19 1918 from the Royal Flying Corps/Royal Air Force Canada)??

How old were the soldiers who fought bravely for the Allies ?

Some like Canadian Private Dewart was only 16 when killed at the Somme. But he wasn't the youngest.

Alan will answer some of these questions and more.

In honour of Remembrance Day, The Burlington Historical Society will have a wreath laid at the Burlington Cenotaph during the November 11, 2024 Remembrance Day ceremony.

Later, on Nov. 11 at 7 p.m., you can attend the Burlington Historical Society's meeting where Alan Harrington of the Burlington Historical Society will share stories of his journeys to Juno and Normandy to experience what his Grandfathers before had done during WWI and WWII. He also visited another few battle sites that remain.

Join them to hear a first person account of what it is to walk among those grounds this year.

Monday Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. At the Burlington Central Library, in the Centennial Room.

Admission is Free. Everyone is welcome. Bring a friend.
