Town staff are reporting an update on the closure schedule for downtown Oakville's Allan Street, expected to last at least four month for construction.
Allan Street in Oakville will be temporarily closed between Macdonald Road and Galt Avenue to facilitate underground servicing for a new Fernbrook Homes development.
According to the town of Oakville staff, the closure that began on Monday, Jan. 20, 2025 and is expected to last until Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
A designated detour route will be in place, directing traffic along Macdonald Road, Douglas Avenue, and Galt Avenue. However, local access will be maintained for residents.
This closure follows previous closures in the area, such as the recent Macdonald Road closure (between Reynolds Street and Allan Street), which impacted traffic for two months.
The closure is in place to install underground servicing for a Fernbrook Homes development. In 2022, the Town approved Fernbrook Homes to build 19 single detached homes and 16 townhouses in the area, where a former hospital used to be.
The partnership was the result of the Former Hospital Site Project, which proposed using the grounds to redevelop the area "to meet the needs of Oakville residents," the Town of Oakville says.
