The town of Oakville, along with Burlington, Halton Hills, and Milton, is calling on artists to submit proposals for an interactive arts activity as part of Culture Days 2025.
According to the town, the selected artist or collective will receive a $4,000 budget, which includes a $2,200 commission and up to $1,800 for material costs. The project will take place at designated indoor locations across the four municipalities over three weekends: Sept. 20-21, Sept. 27-28, and Oct. 4-5, 2025.
The opportunity is open to multidisciplinary artists, artist teams, and collectives who are 18 years or older. Proposals must offer a free, participatory arts or cultural activity designed for large group engagement in a drop-in format.
The town says that projects should align with Culture Days’ mission of fostering unity and collaboration and should explore themes of home and belonging.
Permanent public art installations are not eligible, but interactive workshops, collaborative art initiatives, and participatory performances such as music and dance will be considered.
Artists interested in applying must submit their proposals by 4 p.m. on April 24, 2025, via email to [email protected]. Applications must include a detailed project proposal, budget breakdown, artist biography, samples of previous work, resume, and a signed artist declaration.
A panel of local artists, arts professionals, and community representatives will review submissions, with the selected project announced by May 15, 2025. The chosen artist will then collaborate with municipal staff to coordinate programming across the participating municipalities.
Culture Days is a nationwide festival celebrating arts and culture, running from Sept. 19 to Oct. 12, 2025. The town says the event encourages hands-on participation and highlights the role of the arts in building vibrant communities.
