Flooding in Halton earlier this month.

In light of recent damaging storms, it’s important to be aware of programs that can help protect your property and provide peace of mind in the face of unpredictable events.

To that end, Halton Region’s enhanced basement flooding prevention subsidy program allows residents to make home improvements that can reduce the risk of flooding. The subsidies cover downspout disconnection (up to a maximum of $500), weeping tile disconnection and sump pump installation (up to $5,000), backwater valve installation (up to $675) and sewer lateral lining and repair (up to $2,000).

To qualify for the weeping tile disconnection and sump pump installation subsidy, homeowners must use a Halton Region-approved contractor. For the rest, you may use a contractor of your own choosing.

More details of the program and subsidies are available on the region’s website.
