On Thursday, October 5, 2017 Halton Region hosted the fourth Celebration of Life Awards and honoured the Advanced Care Paramedic graduates. The Celebration of Life Awards recognized the contribution of paramedics and citizens for saving the lives of Halton residents. The Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) Graduation Ceremony honoured six graduates for advancing their lifesaving skills.
Every day, Halton’s dedicated paramedics are working in our community to save lives and provide responsive pre-hospital care to hundreds of individuals. The Celebration of Life Awards and the Advanced Care Paramedic Graduation Ceremony gives us an opportunity to recognize our paramedics and the bystanders who help them keep our community safe. We are grateful for the commitment of these brave individuals in protecting our residents’ safety, health and well-being.
Halton Region’s Paramedic Services operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing care to residents in Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville. The service is comprised of over 220 full and part-time paramedics with a fleet of 34 emergency response vehicles. Every year, Halton paramedics respond to more than 50,000 calls and transport almost 30,000 people, ensuring the community gets the care it needs when people are at their most vulnerable. Advanced Care Paramedic Information:
The Advanced Care Paramedic college program is designed to provide paramedics with advanced knowledge and skills for practicing emergency health care and to prepare them to function as a leader in emergency situations. Graduates of the program will have demonstrated the ability to safely and competently care for patients of all ages and administer advanced medical treatment measures.
The program is comprised of:
- classroom instruction,
- skills and patient simulation labs,
- clinical placement and
- field placement.
Requirements:
- Two-year Ontario College Primary Care Paramedic diploma, and a current Advanced Emergency Medical Care Attendant (A-EMCA) license or equivalent
- A minimum 2,000 hours or 1 year experience in an urban EMS setting, or equivalent, is required.
