It's not every day you turn 105, you know. But that's a reason to celebrate for Oakville resident Ruth Knight.
Ruth has been a resident of Oakville since 2009 when she first moved here to live at one of the local retirement residences.
Even at 105, Ruth is able to still take care of herself as much as she can when in her own room. She always makes it a priority to make her own bed and wash her own dishes. Along with some other chores that she does on her own.
When asked, however, she's still unsure of what the secret is to living as long as she has.
"I don't know [what the secret is]," Ruth admits. "I don't smoke, and I stopped drinking liquor because it caused high blood pressure and I have to watch what I eat."
It seems like following those steps has helped Ruth live much longer than even she expected.
She still has much of her independence, and Ruth says she's very thankful to her son Bob and the staff at Kensington for helping her when she needs it, crediting them for being a help and being able to turn this age.
Happy birthday Ruth!
