The Halton District School Board’s Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) will host its annual Parent Involvement Committee Conference on Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Milton.

The theme this year is Getting Connected. Registration is open to HDSB parents and guardians, the board said in a news release.

This year’s conference features keynote speaker Kristi Herold, founder and CEO of JAM and best-selling author of It Pays to PLAY

As a parent and a leader, the board said Herold will share her knowledge and experience with families on how they can foster a healthy and well-connected family and community.

Parents can discover how harnessing the power of play can improve mental health and well-being and support the development of essential life skills.

Following the keynote address, the 2024 PIC Conference will provide workshops for parents/guardians such as Self-Regulation and You, Anti-Sex Trafficking - Introduction and Awareness, Collaborative Problem Solving - Challenging Kids and All Kids Lack Skill, Not Will and many more, which the board said will be engaging and practical.

“As educators, we recognize the impact that strong family and community connections have on student success. This year’s Parent Involvement Committee Conference emphasizes the vital role of play in fostering meaningful connections,” says Tara Connor, the board's superintendent of education.

“By offering engaging workshops and an insightful keynote address, we aim to equip parents/guardians with the tools and resources they need to strengthen their family bonds and create bright futures for the students in our community.”

The board said child minding will be provided at no cost for kindergarten age children up to age 12. Morning refreshments and lunch are also provided. For more information, and to register for the conference, visit the PIC webpage on the HDSB website hdsb.ca

The conference takes place at Elsie MacGill Secondary School, 1410 Bronte St. S., in Milton.
