Santa Claus is coming to town!
Oakville is preparing for tomorrow's annual Santa Claus Parade, which is one of the biggest town gatherings of the year. The event starts tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. and the town wants to make sure all attendees are prepared.
There are special viewing areas, road closures, and free shuttles for parking in town. Oakville News has gathered everything you need to know before tomorrow's festivities.
Below are some tips and key information to help you make sure you get the best view of Santa and his reindeer going through downtown Oakville:
Shuttle services from Oakville GO:
The town of Oakville is encouraging people to avoid parking their vehicles and to take the Santa Shuttle instead. The free shuttle service will be running at Oakville GO station on Saturday, Nov. 16, 204. The shuttle will run every five to 10 minutes from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Expect road closures through Downtown Oakville and Kerr Village:
To ensure Santa can take the best route, certain roads in these areas will be closed from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m:
- Deane Avenue from Maurice Drive to Kerr Street
- Felan Avenue from Stewart Street to Rebecca Street
- Kerr Street from Lakeshore Road to Stewart Street
- Lakeshore Road from Allan Street to Brant Street
- Rebecca Street from Dorval Drive to Forsythe Street
- Robinson Street from Navy Street to Allan Street
- Stewart Street from Kerr Street to Maurice Drive
Detour routes will be in effect:
As a result of the road closures, there will be detour routes available for the following roads:
- Chartwell Road
- Cornwall Road
- Speers Road
- Dorval Drive
- Fourth Line
Parking will be prohibited in certain areas:
The following residential streets will have parking restrictions until 12 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024:
- Deane Avenue
- Brookfield Road
- Burnet Road
- Maurice Drive
- John Street
- Queen Mary Drive
- Felan Avenue
- Hawthorne Road
- Herald Avenue
- Inglewood Drive
- Stewart Street
- Westside Drive
- Elmwood Road
- Bartos Drive
Dress accordingly:
Santa is coming to town regardless of the rain or sunshine, so the town of Oakville staff recommends everyone to dress weather appropriately.
Donations are welcomed:
People are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate to Oakville food banks. New toys and gift cards are also accepted.
Expect a large turnout:
Plenty of people are expected to see Santa tomorrow, so parents are cautioned that their children might be separated. If a child is separated, Halton police suggests that parents take a photo of their child that day to help police find them.
