While it's a car show, it's also a major end-of-season social gathering.

British Car Day was a tremendous hit on Sunday, with nearly 1,000 classic cars rolling into Bronte Creek Provincial Park, drawing approximately 10,000 spectators over the course of the day.

This year marked the 39th annual British Car Day, showing off 56 classes of cars and motorcycles "from Austin to Westfield with model names from Anglia to Zephyr and everything in between," according to event chairman Dave Sims.

The annual event features a wide range of British cars, from current models and daily drivers to partially restored vehicles and projects-in-progress, all lined up alongside classic and concours-class cars within their respective marque and model categories.

While it's a car show, it's also a major end-of-season social gathering.

"My favourite part, every year, is looking at the fantastic array of cars that we get here," said Sims.

"I'm a car guy, I'm a British Car guy, I'm a Brit, so how can I not like this?" he continued.

The event offers a great opportunity for the community to see the history of various motor vehicles and learn about British cars. But for Sims, it's the future of these events that he hopes will leave a lasting impression.

"We get a lot of the older guys here but we've noticed these days there's young families. We're hoping to get young families involved with the car clubs as a hobby, fixing cars, that's what we really want to do is to encourage the next generation along."
