Young animal lovers, take note: the Oakville and Milton Humane Society is accepting applications for its upcoming Kindness Club, an evening program for children to explore animal education.
That’s done through an eight-week workshop featuring hands-on interaction with the shelter’s adorable residents, as well as guest speakers, crafts, games and other activities.
The program is open to those six to 12, with groups broken into two age groups. The winter session begins in January, and those interested can sign up online here.
OMHS is also launching a Humane Heroes program for 13 to 16-year-olds interested in animal advocacy and how the shelter operates. It’s a two-hour program split between lessons, interactive activities and volunteering.
That winter session is sold out, but registrations are now being taken for the spring, with signs up now open.
Plans are also in the work for a new home school program for youth age seven to 10.
Expected to start in early 2025, it will offer one-and-a-half hour sessions for children to learn about animals, participate in crafts and activities and meet a furry friend.
