Call it paws-itively good news for the Oakville and Milton Humane Society.
The local animal shelter is one of 10 organizations across Canada to share in this year’s PEDIGREE Foundation grants – sharing in the total $100,000 gifting.
According to the State of the Pet Homelessness Index, there are approximately 39,000 dogs in shelters and rescue centres across the country.
PEDIGREE has strived to support those organizations’ efforts since its foundation began in 2008. Since that time, more than $14 million has been given to aid in animal care and welfare services.
“This year we are seeing the length of stay continue to increase for many dogs in shelters across the country,” said PEDIGREE Foundation President Lisa Campbell. “Our grants fund critical programs like fostering, behavioural training, transport and safety net initiatives that help reduce the length of stay and increase adoption overall.”
Other nearby humane society beneficiaries this year include those in Guelph and Kitchener-Waterloo.
