Locals treated to optimal viewing of last night's partial lunar eclipse

Anyone looking at last night's moon got quite a treat in south Halton

Anyone looking at last night's moon got quite a treat in Oakville and Burlington, as skies were clear for a partial lunar eclipse.

With the moon above the horizon during this partial eclipse, it was entirely visible to most of North America, as well as other parts of the world.

  • 3.5% of the moon's area was covered by Earth's umbra
  • entire event lasted four hours and six minutes, beginning around 10:15 p.m.
  • 38.85% of the world population would have been able to view the partial phase

A total solar eclipse took place earlier this year on April 8, 2024, when South Shell Park became the viewing party for locals and visitors.

According to www.timeanddate.com the Canadians will be treated to a full lunar eclipse March 13-14, 2025. In Ontario, it will begin just before midnight on March 13 and end around 6 a.m. on March 14, with about five minutes of totality starting at 2:26 a.m.
