As winter’s chill continues, a local mother and son are warming up for their latest goodwill initiative.
Fresh off a successful holiday toy drive, Deana and Liam Wilson are calling on the community’s generosity for their upcoming online auction in support of the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children.
It’s a place near and dear to their hearts, with nine-year-old Liam a regular there with his ongoing battle with cystic fibrosis.
Looking to give back through the rapidly-growing Liam’s Mission, the local lad – a Make a Wish recipient last fall – and his supporters will hold the auction from Feb. 28 to Mar. 14.
A number of items have already been donated, including some Maple Leafs and Raptors memorabilia, and more contributions are being accepted at [email protected].
“The generosity has meant the world to us,” said Deana, who hopes to add a getaway vacation to the auction offerings that’ll be up for grabs on a special events page soon on the Liam’s Mission Facebook page.
Adding to their fundraising efforts, a recently-established partnership with Sam Iris will see the local beauty salon owner donate 50 per cent of various services (haircuts, makeup, waxing, etc.) throughout February donated to Sick Kids.
Appointments can be made at [email protected].
Meanwhile, Liam is set to turn 10 on Valentine’s Day and is celebrating the milestone with a community-wide colouring project of Phoenix the Fox.
The sheet can be downloaded here, with young participants asked to share their finished product using the hashtag goalsforliam or tagging Liam’s Mission directly.
