
Following a lengthy investigation by the Halton Regional Police Service-Homicide Bureau, a second male 17 year-old, has been arrested for their involvement in the July 13, 2018 fatal shooting of Oakville resident. The accused and victim were known to one another.
On Wednesday September 12, 2018 the young person was charged with:
- Manslaughter
- Obstruct Police
- Public Mischief
- Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition
- Careless Use of a Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm while Prohibited
- Fail to Comply with Recognizance
This individual is scheduled to appear in Milton Court on Thursday September 13, 2018.
Update 2: Post published August 24, 2018
Following a lengthy murder investigation by the Halton Regional Police Service-Homicide Bureau, a male youth (17) of Oakville, has been arrested for the July 13, 2018 fatal shooting of a 19-year-old Oakville resident. The accused and victim were known to one another.
On August 23, 2018 the young person was charged with:
- Criminal Negligence Causing Death by use of Firearm
- Obstructing Justice
- Careless Use of a Firearm
- Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Pointing a Firearm
This individual is scheduled to appear in Milton Court on Thursday September 20, 2018.

Halton Regional Police have released the name of the murder victim. Oakville News will not be posting his name out of respect for the privacy of his family during this difficult time. A murder in Oakville is unusual event to put it mildly; however, on Friday, July 13th, that all changed.
At about 11:15 PM the Halton Regional Police Services responded to a reported shooting in the area of Rebecca Street, East of Dorval Drive in the Town of Oakville. Someone shot a 19-year-old male. Once the Police and the Paramedics arrived at the scene, they pronounced that the victim had died. A post-mortem examination took place on the Saturday, July 14, 2018.
The Halton Regional Police Homicide Unit and Forensic Investigators took over the investigation. At this time, it appears the murder was targeted. The police would like to reassure the public that they do not believe any other residents in the area are at risk.
The police are searching for two suspects. The information released is limited. According to the police the suspects are in their late teens or early twenties.
Rebecca Street between Maurice and Dorval Drive remained closed until the police finished the first part of this investigation. Dorval was re-opened on Sunday, July 15th. At the time of this post, the area in question still remains cordoned off.
Halton Regional Police are asking anyone in the area of Rebecca Street and Dorval Drive, who have CCTV cameras to please contact the Homicide Tip Line at (905)825-4776. The last homicide that took place in Oakville occurred in December 2017, when a 49-year-old man was shot and killed.
Police would remind the public that all people are considering innocent until they are proven guilty in a court of law.
