The Town of Oakville is looking for professional artists who would like to see their work as a permanent piece on the interior wall of the new community centre, opening in 2025 at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex.
Professional Canadian artists, aged 18 and above, are encouraged to apply by submitting their expressions of interest online before 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, May 5.
The chosen artist will be expected to make a minimum of three visits to Oakville for various activities including attending technical consultation meetings, managing the artwork installation, and engaging with the public (i.e. artist talk /public unveiling event).
This call for artists is a two-stage competition process. In the first stage, the expression of interest will be reviewed based on the artist's past work, professional qualifications, and experience.
Then, shortlisted artists will be paid a $1,500 artist fee to develop a proposal of their concept based on detailed specifications.
The selected artist will have a budget of $90,000 to create a final piece of art that will be unveiled in June 2025.
For more details about the two-stage competition process and the project timeline, visit the Call for Submissions page.
Sixteen Mile Sports Complex is undergoing an expansion. The sports fields and cricket ground will open this spring, with the other park features planned for later in the year. The community centre and library will open in 2025. Visit the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex page to learn more about the project.
