The Oakville Fire Department with help from Enbridge Gas has donated 100 alarms for both smoke and Carbon Monoxide to off-campus Sheridan College students.
This is part of the Oakville Fire Departments ongoing mission to help educate those on fire and gas safety.
Oakville Fire Department began this initiative back in 2021 when they made their first alarm donation to Sheridan College students that were not living on campus.
The Department feels it is necessary to continue this donation in part because of fire safety, but also because many people who live off-campus are doing so by themselves for the first time in their lives.
So OFD wants to help provide students with free alarms to ensure that they will have a tool that could potentially save their lives.
In addition to these donations, the OFD also teaches safe cooking to students and attends student fairs/open houses to have conversations with students about safety.
A great way to ensure the safety and continue pushing forward the message of fire and carbon monoxide safety to those who are learning how to live by themselves.
