Royal Canadian Legion Branch 114 celebrates Royal Canadian Air Force Centennial Day

Last night, April 1, 2024, Oakville’s Royal Canadian Legion Branch 114 celebrated the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and its anniversary of 100 years of service.

Long-time legion goers were right at home in Branch 114 last night with good company, good food, and great memories of those who came before them.

Notable local politicians were also in attendance, including Mayor Rob Burton, Ward 7 Councillor Nav Nanda and multiple upcoming party nomination candidates for Oakville.

Mayor Burton proclaimed April 1, 2024, as “Royal Canadian Air Force Centennial Day” in Oakville to honour Canada’s history and those who have served and will serve in the Air Force.

Mayor Burton raised a toast to the crowd in honour of the Royal Canadian Air Force and said “As the son of a man who served in the Air Force his whole life, and the nephew of his brother who was a bomber pilot in World War II and didn’t come back, I’ve got the Air Force in my blood, Air Force forever!”

The crowd chanted back “Forever!”

The RCAF was established as a part of Canada’s military defence on April 1, 1924.
