Local retiree Velmurugu (Sun) Suntharalingam has won $100,000 with an Encore lottery ticket.
A press release from OLG says that Suntharalingam matched the last six of seven ENCORE numbers in the exact order in the April 12, 2024 LOTTO MAX draw to win the $100,000 prize.
Sun, who regularly plays Encore, was "thrilled about his first big win."
"I stopped for gas and decided to check my ticket. I used the self-scanner and didn't believe it when I saw 'Big Winner'," he shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings.
"I gave my ticket to the store clerk and when the lottery terminal shut down, I realized it was true - I actually won!"
The retiree says even thought he could barely speak, he called his family asking them to meet him at the store so he could share the big news with them. "I was so happy and excited to see a big win. Having my family around me made it even better," he smiled.
Sun plans to share this windfall with his children and will treat himself to a trip to visit his sisters and brother. The winning ticket was purchased at Circle K on Speers Road in Oakville.
Encore offers 22 ways to win" and can be played in conjunction with most lottery games for the cost of $1. OLG says Encore draws happen daily.
