Julie McLeod presents as well put together and thoughtful person, and that is what she is and a great deal more.
Julie was born at Trillium Hospital, or as it was known then as South Peel Hospital. Her family lived in Lorne Park. Dad was in the sporting goods business and mom was primarily a homemaker, but decided when Julie got older to work in the parts department of the local Canadian Tire store. Julie has five brothers, so it is difficult to image that her mom had much time to work outside of the home.
A graduate of Lorne Park High School, Julie went to Wilfrid Lauier University where she received a Honours Bachelor in English and minor Film. She attended Sheridan College’s Interior Design program in her 20's and two years ago attended a certificate in Paralegal Studies from Senca College.
Some of you might recognize her from several commercials she has done, most noteably for Becel titled “Love your Heart”. She also has done catalogue modelling in her early 20’s. When Julie was younger she followed her passion for acting and moved to Los Angeles, but recognized that it was a little too far from home. Her career has included working in sales for Hunter Douglas as well as AVIA Athletic Footwear. Julie was the Regional Sales Manager for Vuaret Sunglasses.
Currently, she lives with her mom and her daughter in Ward 5. She has always been a single mom, and she even gets a twinkle and smile when she speaks about her daughter, who is now 23 and attending Queens University in Kingston.
Julie moved to Oakville 19 years ago to be closer to her daughter’s school. Her daughter graduated from St. Mildred's-Lightbourne School at the age of 16.
Being an avid volunteer is a big part of Julie. She has been involved with projects with United Way of Oakville, Daffodil Day with the Canadian Cancer Society, the Toy Drive and Silent Auction for the Oakville Fire Fighters, and was one of the founder’s of TEDx Oakville in 2010. These are just a few of the community programs she has supported since becoming a resident of Oakville.
When asked why she wants to be the town councillor for Ward 2 her answer comes quickly, “I’ve been politically active for 30 years helping on Provincial and Federal campaigns, and I can have the biggest impact on people’s lives in Municipal politics.”
