Mr. Gurinder Singh, a 20 year resident of Oakville, threw his hat into the ring to become a town councillor for Ward 6 on May 15, 2015. He first ran for Ward 6 in the 2014 Municipal Election.  He is running against a total of 10 candidates. Mr Singh owns the Quizno’s located at Eighth Line and Upper Middle Road.

Mr. Singh was studying to become a civil engineer in India, but when his papers where approved for his passage to Canadain 1987 his studies at the University came to a end. He did continue on with his education in Canada and earned his certificate in Electronic Engineering from Senca College, and took the Computer Programing course at Sheridan College.

In 1998 he married his wife, and in 1993 they decided to make Oakville home, and moved into Ward 6.

“The beauty, peace, high quality of living, and less crime,” he states were all the factors that to led to their decision to call Oakville home.

More recently they moved to Ward 5, but with their business in Ward 6, plus their history in the Ward, Mr. Singh knows he understands the needs of not only the residents, but also the business owners. It was in 2009 that he opened up his first Quizno’s, and later opened up a second location which his wife runs.

“I want to run because I could do so much for the community, and Ward 6 is under represented, ” stated Gurinder.

The issues he feels that Ward 6 is facing are: traffic congestion, a poor public notification system, high property taxes, poor support of infrastructure for new developments, poor support for our local businesses, and increased protection of our urban forest.

He feels his local knowledge and business skills will have a positive and significant impact on the Ward.
