Oakville's Queen Elizabeth Park Cultural Community Centre youth mural titled “A trip through town” received an honourable mention for the 2024 Public Art Sustainability award at the Creative City Network of Canada Summit in Vancouver last month.

The collection of young artists were given this recognition after several months of hard work and painting to present their mural to the world.

QEPCCC's young artists created a mural that consists of flowing colours and beautiful images including animals, nature, and children taking part in activities.

A great example of the beauty that Oakville has to offer with its programs and incredible scenery.

The Creative City of Canada conference was first established in November of 2002 in Vancouver, BC.

Since that day, the organization has arranged an annual meeting in different Canadian cities for future culture workers to meet and share ideas, and at this most recent conference, members wanted to recognize these amazing Oakville artists for their work.

QEPCCC's young artists team led by artist Yen Linh Thai are a part of a growing town of Oakville program known as the Oakville Youth Mural Project.

The program consists of 12 artists from ages 13-18 that have the ability to showcase their artistic abilities and expressions to the public.

To join the program, you must send in an application and the best 12 applicants are picked to work on the mural.

QEPCCC is not the only community centre with a team creating mural's, during this summer, 12 applicants were chosen to work on a mural at River Oaks Community Centre and their creation will be unveiled during National Youth Week between May 1 to 7 2025.
