Halton Region is set to begin construction at 1258 Rebecca Street in Oakville later this week, close to Thomas. A Blakelock High School.
Staff for the region say the construction is, "for 14 semidetached, one-bedroom bungalows to provide helpful and supportive housing units for seniors."
The region also says this new building will allow applicants from the Halton Access to Community Housing (HATCH) wait list, which will "help address the demand for more senior friendly housing in Halton Region."
While work is expected to begin this week, no timeline has been given for how long the construction will last.
Due to the construction, however, Halton Region is warning nearby residents for some "upcoming disturbances," including:
- Dust and mud: There could be a rise in dust and mud near the construction site. The contractor will attempt to control these impacts.
- Erosion and sediment controls: Halton Region will be installing erosion and sediment control measures for the length of the project, including tree protection fence and perimeter fencing with heavy-duty silt fabric.
- Noise: Residents may encounter some noise as a result of this Regional improvement. Halton will schedule work in accordance with nearby noise by-laws and make every attempt to minimize any disturbances or inconvenience to the surrounding community.
- Truck traffic: Residents will notice intermittent increases in truck traffic around the ongoing work. Please be cautious and use extra caution while driving.
The region has hired Assembly Corp. and Jackman Construction Limited for design and construction.
Halton staff they are committed to "completing the work as quickly as possible."
