Halton Region has donated two of its decommissioned ambulances to the region's St. John Ambulance location.

The donation was made official at a special event this morning, Dec. 2, 2024, at Halton Region's Woodlands Operations Centre in Oakville on Bronte Road.

The purpose of the donation is for the region to send two ambulances no longer in use by paramedic staff due to the vehicles' age - but they still have enough life left in them to be used by St. John's.

The ambulances could have easily been donated somewhere else, but the region felt it would be better to give them St. John's as the two organizations are partners and work with each other on a regular basis.

St. John's will use these ambulances at parades and public festivals in case there are any injuries that may happen at any of these events.

"It's enormous," said Frank Wong of St. John's. "These ambulances will go to serve all of our units."

Halton Region was glad to donate these ambulances, as they have been frequent partners with St. Johns.

"It just makes sense that they utilize these vehicles for a couple more years," said Chief of Paramedic Services Greg Sage.

With this donation, the two sides have once again come together to keep the community safer and try to prevent further injury before it happens.
