The town of Oakville is helping celebrate Treaties Recognition Week in Ontario with a special museum exhibit this week.

The town will have a special display known as the Debwewin: The Oakville Truth Project at the Erchless Estate which is located at 8 Navy Street from Tuesday November 5, through Sunday November, 10 2024 from 1-4:30 p.m.

This week-long event honouring indigenous treaties first began in 2016, with town staff saying it helps honour the importance of Treaties in Ontario and helps both students and adults learn more about their importance in the province.

Oakville's exhibit is a travelling display that allows the community a chance to know more about the past and present Treaty connections in what has now become Oakville.

The display is a partnership between the Oakville Museum, the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, and the Oakville Community Foundation.

It shares the past history and culture of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation through the communities previous knowledge, archival documents, as well as videos and interactive components.

The exhibition is an unique and thoughtful way to listen and learn about the history of Treaties in our town.
