Halton Region employees raised $92,470 in support of United Way Halton and Hamilton through the 2024 campaign.
At the most recent regional council meeting, United Way Halton and Hamilton CEO Brad Park recognized their efforts. “I want to extend my gratitude to the Halton Region employees, to union members and the team of dedicated volunteers who really made the campaign such an incredible success," Park said.
"They stepped up in a big way, raising almost $93,000 to support the critical programs that will support those who need it the most.”
Park highlighted the growing demand for non-profit services amid economic uncertainty, stating that "more and more people, many for the first time, (are) turning to nonprofit agencies for help — food banks, housing programs and mental health services. They're all stretched to their limits, with agencies struggling to keep up with that growing demand."
He noted that United Way supports 124 local programs serving over 242,000 residents, funding services such as food support, transitional housing and mental health resources.
The Halton Region Employee United Way Committee’s contributions came from payroll deductions and fundraising events such as golf, beach volleyball, a 5K run and pickleball.
Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr expressed appreciation for the collective effort behind the campaign.
“We have a strong, dedicated group at Halton Region who plan and implement the campaign each and every year. I can tell you, we also have a lot of fun as well," Carr said. "They are passionate about giving back to our community, and several committee members have been involved in United Way for a number of years.”
With the support of regional council, Halton Region employees have contributed more than $3.6 million to United Way since 1991.
