Suspicious fire starts at south Oakville church

Oakville Fire Department is currently responding to an ongoing blaze at Bronte's Generations Church of the Nazarene

Oakville Fire Department responded to large fire at a south Oakville church, which began late this morning, Jan. 6, 2025.

The blaze started at Generations Church of the Nazarene near Bronte Village, at Bronte and Bridge Road. Crews arrived on the scene around 11:45 a.m. and began to work on putting out the ongoing fire.

One first responder at the scene said there were possible signs of suspicious activity, with posted signs being graffitied and the fact the church had caught fire after being sold.

A video posted to Facebook by a nearby resident captured the moment when firefighters arrived and began to put out the blaze (and can be seen online here.)

Halton Police arrived and investigated the suspicious fire, and they say one suspect has been arrested they believe is linked to their investigation.

Police closed off Bronte Road from Rebecca to Wyatt Street for about three hours after the first reports of the fire. The road was re-opened around 3 p.m.

Oakville Fire spent approximately three hours trying to extinguish the fire.

Tyler Collins contributed additional reporting to this story.
