Oakville’s newest facility – Trafalgar Park Community Centre – opens Saturday, September 22 with a full day of free activities for the entire family. The grand opening celebration, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. will feature drop-in activities, food trucks, family skates and an opportunity to skate with the Oakville Blades. There will also be plenty of time to explore the community centre and the new Fire Station #3 next door.
Located at 133 Rebecca Street, the 65,000 square foot facility is an expansion of the former Oakville Arena built-in 1951. As part of the redevelopment, the town retained the arena’s distinctive wooden roof trusses as heritage features and added an NHL-size ice surface, public meeting space, fitness centre, full-size gymnasium, indoor walking track, fully accessible outdoor playground and tennis courts that converts into an artificial outdoor rink in the winter. It also includes an older adults centre that replaces the former Oakville Seniors Centre on Kerr Street.

“Trafalgar Park Community Centre is a truly dynamic space designed to help residents lead active, engaged and healthy lifestyles,” said the Oakville Mayor. “Much like the old Oakville Arena, this facility will continue to be a community hub offering a wide array of recreational and cultural programs and opportunities for years to come.”

Fire Station #3, formally at 125 Randall Street, is now in a more accessible and visible location at 168 Kerr Street. It includes four drive-thru bays housing a fire pumper, a 100’ platform truck, an incident command vehicle, a dedicated communications vehicle and adequate space for an extra heavy rescue truck in the future. Residents are invited to visit the station’s multimedia education centre to view curated museum pieces that reflect the history of the Oakville Fire department including a vintage pumper truck on display.
“The new station was designed to meet the needs of the growing Oakville community,” said Fire Chief Brian Durdin. “We’re really looking forward to welcoming residents into the new space to learn about the history of our department and the importance of fire safety and prevention.”
Residents are encouraged to carpool, take transit or walk to the celebration event. Overflow parking will be available at 258 Kerr Street on a first-come, first-served basis.
