Downtown Oakville's Town Square has recently welcomed a new installation: bench swings that are part of the "Mi Casa, Your Casa" display, available for visitors to enjoy until September 19.

These swings were inspired by the mercados of Latin America, which are described on a nearby sign as "lively street markets where human connections are made every day."

The installation features three-dimensional red frames designed to evoke the "warmth, comfort, and safety of our homes."

According to the display's description, "With their basic shape recognizable by all, the tiny houses form a blank canvas for community engagement and activity, where people of all ages can socialize in a playful spirit."

An interactive feature of the swings is that when a seat is empty, it lights up, inviting someone to sit. Once occupied, the light brightens to symbolize that "someone is home."
