Hockey Canada announced its roster for the 2025 World Junior Hockey Championship, and Oakville's Calum Ritchie has earned a spot on the final roster.
Ritchie was named to the selection camp at the start of the month and went through the tryout process with 40 other players. The final roster was revealed last Friday, Dec. 13.
All players were sent to Ottawa for the selection camp where they did drills with each other and wrapped up the camp with games against the
U-Sports all-stars.
Once those games finished, the final cuts were made and Ritchie was named to Team Canada.
Ritchie has the chance to play a big role on Canada's Team this year. After not being selected to camp last season due to an injury, Ritchie has something to prove on his age groups highest international level. He has a strong chance to be one of Canada's top offensive threats and lead the team to its first gold medal since 2023.
Ritchie has also played for Canada at other international tournaments and done very well - in 2022, he played for Canada at the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup, scoring 10 points in five games while also bringing home a gold medal.
Then in 2023, Ritchie played for Canada in the U-18 World Championships where he scored nine points in seven games helping Canada to win a bronze.
Ritchie and Team Canada will begin pre-tournament action soon and game one will take place on Boxing Day at 7:30 p.m. on TSN.
