In Brampton's Dec. 13 game against the Sudbury Wolves, Oakville's own Luke Misa broke the Brampton Steelheads franchise assist record with his 132nd as a member of the franchise.
Misa broke the record in the third period when he passed the puck to rookie defenceman Alexander Stephens, sniping the puck into the net from the blue line.
That goal didn't just give Misa the record - it was also Stephens' first career OHL goal.
The road has been long for Misa; je originally entered the Steelheads organization as a 15-year-old when he was selected ninth overall in the 2021 OHL priority selection.
He earned a spot on the team as a rookie, getting the chance to learn from OHL veterans and future pro hockey players like Montreal Canadiens prospect Owen Beck and Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Luca Del Bel Bulluz.
Misa didn't put up many points as a rookie, but he learned a lot that season.
The next year, the Steelheads began to rebuild their team and Misa became one of their key players after they traded away some of their most talented forwards. Misa started to become a leader on the team and scored 43 points which was a big increase from the previous year where he only scored 26.
In his third season, Misa took off and began to turn heads around the OHL: He recorded 26 goals and 55 assists for a total of 81 points, which led the Steelheads in scoring.
That season, Misa was eligible for the 2024 NHL draft and due his great season he was selected in the fifth round by the Calgary Flames.
Misa currently has 19 goals and 26 assists for a total of 45 points with the Steelheads this season and hopes to help bring his contending team to the Memorial Cup later this season.
