The Oakville Rangers U-16 AAA hockey team defeated the North York Rangers yesterday, March 28, in a 6-5 victory that would send them to the 2024 OHL Cup Championship Final where they will face the Vaughan Kings.

Vaughan and Oakville have met several times already this season, they tied in a 2-2 game at the beginning of the season and since then each team has beaten each other once in overtime, most recently included a 4-3 overtime loss for the Rangers on Monday.

Since that loss, the Rangers have been on a five game win streak in the OHL Cup, beating teams by scores of up to eight goals ahead of them.

The Rangers will need to continue their streak at the final game this Saturday, March 30, 2024 as players from both teams get ready to take the ice at one of the biggest minor hockey events in Canada for the year.

The 2024 OHL Cup began on March 25, and brought out the top 20 U-16 AAA teams from Ontario and the United States.

The Rangers have dominated this tournament with their only loss coming from the Kings.

The Kings have stayed undefeated throughout the entire tournament.

Each team has a long list of players on the tournaments scouting reports for the OHL draft

The stands will certainly be filled with scouts this Saturday afternoon as both teams are set to take the ice at 2 p.m. at Mattamy Athletic Centre. The game will be streamed for free on OHL Live while tickets to see the game can be purchased online

The last Oakville Rangers team to make it to the OHL cup was in 2013, that team was also the first ever Rangers team to win the tournament. This year, Oakville will also be the first team from outside the GTHL to make it to the finals of the OHL Cup since 2016.
