Earlier this week, Oakville's own Isaiah George laced up his skates up for his first ever NHL game with the New York Islanders.

George played with the Islanders in their shootout win against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday, Nov. 5, wearing the number 36. He played 15:41 of total ice time, with 0 points in the game.

"[The game] was great, [it was] a dream come true," said George about making his debut in the NHL.

George even received some very high praise from his Head Coach Patrick Roy as he said his play was "outstanding."

"I thought he had a solid game," Roy said. "I was very pleased with his performance, he even played in overtime. Good job kid."

But George nearly missed his opportunity to play on Tuesday.

According to New York Islanders newsletter The Elmonters, George missed the original phone call from management to let him know that he was getting called up to the NHL and would play in his first game.

“I didn’t have my phone in the room, and then the show I was watching ended,” George said. “I then went on my phone and saw that I had a missed call from thirty minutes ago. So, I called them back, and then I found out.”

Thankfully, by the time George called the Islanders back, they hadn't decided to call someone else up because he didn't answer.

George put on quite an impression to the Islanders coaching staff and it looks like he will be sticking around with the team for at least another game.
