Last Sunday, two Appleby College students helped Canada win a Gold Medal at the U-18 Women's Hockey World Championships.

Ava Wood and Riley Sorokan, both current students at Oakville's Appleby College, were on Canada's roster for the U-18 women's team at the tournament.

In the final, Canada emerged victorious after a 3-0 win against the USA to win the tournament and capture the gold medal.

During the tournament, both Appleby students helped provide offence for Canada in their road to Gold. Ava Wood scored five assists in six games and Riley Sorokan scored three assists in six games.

With both Wood and Sorokan only 17 years of age, this gold medal win is an incredible accomplishment in their young hockey careers. Both players have an incredible future planned for them as they both plan on playing in the NCAA next season.

Wood says she next plans on playing for and attending Colgate University, in Hamilton, New York. Sorokan plans to play for and attend Princeton in New Jersey.

The future looks bright for these two young Oakville stars. Congratulations!
