Registration for the 10th annual Halton Children's Water Festival is now open. The festival runs from September 29 to October 2 at the Kelso Conservation Area in Milton and is open to students in grades 2 to 5. Halton-area teachers can register their classes online at www.hcwf.ca until September 18, 2015. Teachers are encouraged to register early as there are limited spots per grade.

The Halton Children’s Water Festival was first held in 2006 and was launched with the assistance of a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Over the years, the festival has expanded with more students participating over more days. The 2015 festival will feature a variety of activities designed to educate children about water—one of the world’s most precious natural resources—in a fun, outdoor environment.

“We are absolutely thrilled to reach such a significant milestone with the Halton Children’s Water Festival, which has informed and educated thousands of children about water, and its importance, since 2006,” said John Vice, Conservation Halton Chairman and Honorary Water Festival Co-Chair. “Conservation Halton has enjoyed working in partnership with Halton Region from the idea stage to where we are today with the successful operation of a festival which has become very popular in our community. We want to thank Halton Region, as well as all our other municipal and community partners for their commitment and support.”

Protecting the natural environment is a priority at Halton Region and our partnership with Conservation Halton is a natural extension of our commitment to a sustainable future. For 10 years this event has helped educate youth to increase their awareness about the importance of our environment and the protection of natural resources so that we can meet our needs today without compromising the needs of future generations.

The festival will once again provide grade 5 students with a French language day option, on Tuesday, September 29. The day will provide students with activities in French for half a day and will be presented by French immersion high school students.

The cost is $5 per child, which includes a full day at the festival and busing to and from the event.

The festival is co-hosted by Conservation Halton and Halton Region in partnership with Halton District School Board, Halton Catholic District School Board, City of Burlington, Town of Halton Hills, and Town of Oakville. It is a community partnership that depends on more than 150 volunteers each day to assist with various activities. Each year, over 400 Halton high school students, and over 100 staff from partner organizations and community volunteers all generously offer their time to help deliver the water festival. Residents and community groups who would like to volunteer this year can contact Halton Region by dialing 311 or visit the festival website at www.hcwf.ca.
