The federal government gave Oakville $1,021,794.00 in funds for the 2017 Canada Summer Jobs. It resulted in creating 510 jobs and also provided valuable experience that students will require when seeking permanent jobs after graduation. Small businesses and organizations also benefited from the funding. The funds gave them access to highly motivated young people who could provide additional support as well as a new perspective.
“The Canada Summer Jobs Program is a win-win for businesses, organizations and students,” said Oakville MP John Oliver. “This funding helps support local organizations while providing students valuable work experience in fields pertaining to their academic background and skill that will be used for the rest of their lives. I’ve had the opportunity to spend the last few weeks visiting with and touring CSJ recipient organizations, and I could not be more proud of the quality of work experience these young Oakvillians are receiving. Thank you to all organizations and businesses for providing gainful experience, and congratulations to all students on their successful placements.”
"Working at H2O 4 ALL is a rewarding experience,” said Bersabeh, a chemical engineering student at Ryerson University. “I have learned so much in such little time, but what I loved most of all was being able to get a glimpse of what engineers actually do."
"Our summer students add energy and excitement to our summer programs, it is a great opportunity to give students practical experience and grow their leadership skills," said Halton Multicultural Centre's Executive Director, Kim Jenkinson. "Several students have come back to us once they finish school to join us for full time work.
