Oakville residents cast their vote for Mayor, Town Councillors, Town and Regional Councillors, Regional Chair and School Board Trustees on Monday, October 22nd. This year will mark the introduction of Ward 7. The 2018 municipal election provides Oakville residents with the opportunity to engage with local government and if you
are interested in running for Council.
“Public engagement is critical to the work and success of any municipality,” said Vicki Tytaneck, Oakville’s Town Clerk. “A municipal election is the most significant way that residents can engage with local government to shape their community. The town is committed to providing voters and potential candidates with important election information throughout the process.”
If you are a potential candidate, here are some tips on where to find helpful information:
Free info sessions at Town Hall:
- Wednesday April 18th from 6 to 8 PM at Town hall, municipal lawyer Fred Dean and the Town of Oakville will be co-hosting “So you want to run for Council?” This free session is for residents interested in running for a seat on Council in the 2018 municipal election.
- Friday, April 27th from 4 to 6 PM at Town hall, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs will lead a free session focusing on running a municipal election campaign, legislation changes, campaign financing and more.
2018 Municipal Election candidate criteria:
- Candidate nomination papers must be filed between May 1, 2018 and July 27, 2018.
Candidates must be:
- 18 years or older
- A Canadian citizen
- An Oakville resident or the owner or tenant of Oakville property or be the spouse of someone who does.
