On Monday, April 24, 2017, the Halton Catholic District School Board held its 29th Annual Student Awards of Excellence Ceremony.

"It is our priority to provide our students with the tools for realizing their academic potential, while instilling in them a life-long commitment to our faith, and to our community. To our student recipients – thank you for your generosity of spirit," stated Paula Dawson, HCDSB Director of Education. ​​​​​​​​​​​

This year, the celebration took place at Jean Vanier Catholic Secondary School in Milton, honouring recipients of both the Student Awards of Excellence and the Spirit of Inclusion Awards. View a full list of 2017 student award recipients here.

The Very Reverend John Van Hees, Dean of Halton and Pastor from Mary Mother of God Parish, with the Very Reverend Con O’Mahony, Vicar of Education and Pastor from St. Andrew Parish presided at the Celebration of the Eucharist.

The Student Awards of Excellence are presented annually to a student from each elementary and secondary school who has demonstrated outstanding qualities in Catholic leadership, family commitment, involvement in school affairs and community activities.

The Spirit of Inclusion Award was created by the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC), and is presented each year to one elementary student and one secondary student who has demonstrated a commitment to school activities and to their community, making their peers feel valued and respected.

The 29th Annual Student Awards of Excellence Ceremony will air on TVCOGECO, beginning April 28, 2017.
