Anita Anand, Oakville's Federal Liberal Candidate

Yesterday evening, Wednesday, June 12, 2019, members of the Oakville Federal Liberal Association gathered at Le Dome Banquet Hall to select the Oakville Liberal candidate for the 2019 federal election. With over 1000 votes cast, Anita Anand is the new Team Trudeau candidate in Oakville.

John Oliver, current Member of Parliament for Oakville announced in February that he would not be running in the 2019 election precipitating a nomination process.

It the right thing for Canada and it’s at the heart of the Liberal brand our Leader is building. Anita Anand and Justin Trudeau will be an unstoppable team in Oakville,” stated John Oliver, Member of Parliament for Oakville. Anita is a wonderful, highly accomplished candidate, and I look forward to working with her over the next 5 months to ensure we keep Oakville red in October.”

About Anita Anand

Anita Anand is a lawyer, professor, researcher, and mother of four. Professionally, she has enjoyed a successful and recognized career as a lawyer including her current association with Torys as their Scholar in Residence. As a Professor of Law at the University of Toronto, she is honoured to hold the J.R. Kimber Chair in Investor Protection and Corporate Governance.

Anita is also a Senior Fellow and member of the Governing Board of Massey College, and the current Director of Policy and Research at the Capital Markets Institute. She has taught law at Western University, Yale Law School, and Queen’s University.

In 2015, Anita was appointed by Ontario’s Minister of Finance, Charles Sousa to the Expert Committee to Consider Financial Planning Policy Alternatives.

Ms. Anand has undertaken extensive research on corporate governance and shareholder rights and appears regularly in the media on these topics. She serves on the boards of two Canadian public companies and advises several associations and institutions in the

business community.

She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Lighthouse for Grieving Children, and has recently served on a number of local boards including the Boards of the Oakville Hospital Foundation and Oakville Hydro Electricity Distribution Inc.
