Crime Stoppers of Halton wishes to acknowledge and thank residents who have submitted anonymous tips to the Halton Crime Stoppers program so far this year.

David Wood, director of Halton Crime Stoppers, summed up the year-to-date statistics.

"The success of the Crime Stoppers program in Halton Region is the direct result of the involvement of our community. When residents anonymously submit detailed tips to the program, Halton Police actively investigate and those investigations often result in criminals off the street and out of our communities," Wood said.

Results of anonymous tips

From January 1st to the end of June 2019, Halton Crime Stoppers processed over 600 anonymous tips, leading to 26 arrests, 66 charges laid, and 2 fugitives captured by Halton Regional Police Services.

Furthermore, those tips led to the recovery of stolen cash and property including six vehicles, and a substantial seizure of narcotics destined for our streets.

Oakville residents submitted 42 tips.

Tips come primarily from mobile devices, followed by computers and then by traditional land-line calls. Also, Halton Crime Stoppers accepts a multiple number of attachments with a tip such as photographs.

"Halton Crime Stoppers is proud of the results and of our ability to offer cash rewards of up $2,000 for tips that lead to an arrest," Wood Said. "So far this year, Halton Crime Stoppers has approved 24 rewards totaling over $6,000.
