Tickets are now on sale for the annual YMCA Community Breakfast for Peace on Thursday, November 19. This year's event features keynote Zak Ebrahim, prominent peace activist and author of The Terrorist's Son: A Story of Choice.

Zak Ebrahim was only ten years old when it was discovered that his father helped plan the bombing of the World Trade Centre. For Zak, a childhood amid terrorism was all he knew, and he spent years moving around to hide his identity. Despite all of this, as he grew older, Zak committed himself to choosing a different path - one that chose empathy over hatred. Zak will share his powerful story during his keynote address at the breakfast, and at Iroquois Ridge, Holy Trinity and St. Thomas Aquinas High Schools following the event.

The year's community breakfast takes place at the Oakville Conference Centre from 7:00-9:30 a.m. The presentation of 2015 YMCA Peace Medallions to one youth, adult and group committed to choosing empathy and making a difference in Oakville will also be included. Tickets for the breakfast are now on sale online for $25 per person or $220 for a table of 10.

The YMCA Community Breakfast for Peace is part of YMCA Peace Week from November 14-21. During the week, YMCA's across Canada will be hosting events and activities to help children, youth and adults explore peace from personal, local and global perspectives. Together, YMCA's will be asking people to: Build community. Act for peace.

Throughout YMCA Peace Week, the YMCA of Oakville will host a number of other activities focused on inspiring empathy and kindness including the YMCA Candlelight Walk for Peace, Yoga for Peace, #30Seconds4Peace and Be Kind Bells. Full details about YMCA Peace Week in Oakville, scheduled activities and the community breakfast can be found at ymcaofoakville.org.
