Carjacking suspect arrested - chase started in Oakville

Wednesday, July 30, 2019, a lone male was responsible for attempting to  steal a vehicle from the Petro Canada at Royal Windsor Drive in Oakville.  The same man used a gun in a carjacking 30 minutes later.

The carjacking took place by a sports complex on Cornwall Road in Oakville.

A female contacted the Halton Regional Police at approximately 7:30 PM to report the incident.

The police located the stolen vehicle. The carjacker/thief was travelling in the area of Dundas Street and Winston Churchill in Oakville. The police successfully disabled the vehicle using a tire deflation device.

The suspect abandoned the vehicle in a small parking lot in the area of Dundas Street and Glen Erin Drive in Mississauga.

The 21 year-old suspect attempted to steal two other vehicles at gunpoint. He was unsuccessful. Halton Regional Police and Peel Regional police located and arrested the suspect. This took place after a short standoff.

The police searched the surrounding area and recovered an Air Soft pistol. It resembled a Remington 1911 pistol.

One victim sustained a small laceration to the face. No other injuries occurred.

The police stated, "there are no current public safety concerns."

The Halton Regional Police Service thanked the Peel Regional Police Service for their collaboration and quick response. Their support brought this volatile situation to a safe and successful conclusion.

  • 2 Counts of Point firearm
  • Robbery
  • Attempt Theft of motor vehicle
  • Disguise with intent
  • Dangerous driving
  • Driving while disqualified
  • Weapons dangerous
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Utter threats
  • Fail to comply with weapons prohibition
  • Fail to comply with probation
