CFUW-Oakville announces 2019 Scholarship Winners

CFUW-Oakville has announced the recipients of $22,500 in scholarships for Oakville women graduating from publicly funded schools. These are deserving young women who intend to pursue studies at post-secondary institutions.

They raise funds for these awards through member donations and fundraising events. Melissa Vassallo donates the funds for the Access Award she inspired.

CFUW-Oakville is a member of the Canadian Federation of University Women. The Oakville chapter, this year marking their 70th anniversary, was founded in 1949 and is a volunteer, non-partisan, non-profit, self-funded organization.

About CFUW

Founded in 1919, the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) is a voluntary, non-partisan, non-profit, self-funded bilingual organization of 10,000 women university graduates in Clubs across Canada. CFUW members are active in public affairs, working to raise the social, economic and legal status of women, as well as improve education, the environment, peace and human rights for all.

CFUW establishes its policies at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) where members debate resolutions developed at the grassroots level. Following the AGM, delegations from CFUW meet with provincial and the federal to governments to present the CFUW Policy Brief.

CFUW is a founding member of Graduate Women International – GWI (formerly International Federation of University Women (IFUW), an organization of 71 national affiliates with a membership of over 180,000. Through GWI, CFUW provides support for women worldwide, in their pursuit of higher education and economic stability.

CFUW has consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in New York and sends a delegate to the March meeting.
