Three Colombian nationals arrested for entries in Oakville, Richmond Hill, and Markham.
The Halton Regional Police Service has charged three suspects in connection with a series of residential break and enters in Oakville, Richmond Hill, and Markham.
On March 26, 2019, a lone male broke into a residence on Bayshire Drive in Oakville by smashing the rear glass sliding door. The suspect targeted jewelry and watches, cash, car keys, and other miscellaneous items.
Thanks to a vigilant neighbor who observed the suspect carrying multiple bags away from the residence, Halton Regional Police Service officers were able to quickly respond to the area.
A thorough canvass of the area resulted in the discovery of exceptional video footage captured by neighbouring homes. Using the information gleaned from the eyewitness and the security footage, investigators identified three Colombian nationals residing in the City of Toronto.
During the course of the investigation, investigators were able to determine that the suspects also took part in entries in Richmond Hill and Markham.
On April 17, 2019, members of the 2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau arrested two male suspects in the City of Toronto. Halton Police officers later executed a search warrant at the suspects' temporary residence in Toronto and recovered approximately $100,000 in stolen property.
On April 20, 2019, the Halton Regional Police Service arrested the third suspect at her temporary residence in Toronto.
Charges faced by the three Columbian nationals
28 year-old male from Colombia was charged with:
- Three counts of break and enter
- Possession of property obtained by crime - Over $5,000
- Possession of forged documents
A 47 year-old man from Colombia was charged with:
- Two counts of counts of break and enter
- Possession of property obtained by crime - Over $5,000
- Possession of forged documents
- Obstruct Police
A 45 year-old female from Colombia was charged with:
- Possession of property obtained by crime - Over $5,000
All three suspects were held in custody pending bail hearings. The Halton Regional Police Service will be collaborating closely with the Canada Border Services Agency to determine the suspects' current status in Canada.
