Canada’s 150 anniversary of Confederation is a historic occasion that the Government of Canada is proud to celebrate and support. The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, is pleased to announce $464,600 in funding for the town of Oakville from the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150). This program encompasses $300 million across the country over two years for the renovation, expansion and improvement of existing community and cultural infrastructure.
CIP 150 will benefit many types of community infrastructure, including:
- community centres,
- cultural centres,
- museums,
- parks,
- recreational facilities,
- trails,
- libraries and
- tourism facilities
that will help to support economic growth and prosperity, while making important investments in projects that support a better future for Canadians and advancing clean growth economy.
I know from my work in Oakville that the residents of our town highly value their connection to nature through our great ravine trail systems, our parks, and outdoor facilities. We are also a community that shares a great enthusiasm for outdoor sports and activities, regardless of our cultural origins. Today’s funding announcement supports these common pursuits.
In Oakville, these projects encompass: $336,600 for the expansion of Crosstown Trail, $82,000 towards the rehabilitation of Falgarwood Park soccer field, $33,000 towards the improvement of Coronation Park picnic areas, as well as $13,000 towards making the Golden Meadow Park playground more accessible to all those in our community.
“I can think of no better way to commemorate Canada’s 150th anniversary than with projects aimed at improving liveability and wellbeing in the community for years to come,” said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton. “On behalf of Council, I applaud MP Oliver and our partners in the federal government for their support and initiative.”
