What a wild and crazy early spring Oakville is having from Snow Fall Warnings, and now to Flood Warnings. Conservation Halton issued a Flood Warning for Oakville and Halton today, that will stay in effect until Thursday, April 7, 2016. The community is reminded to stay clear of moving bodies of waters. Oakville may experience some localized flooding as streams and rivers crest their banks.
Here is the Flood Warning issued by Conservation Halton:
Conservation Halton advises that local forecasts are predicting approximately 15 mm of rainfall tomorrow afternoon and overnight. Daytime highs of 5 degrees Celsius are expected to melt the existing snowpack across the watershed. Natural watercourses are still near bankfull conditions following last week’s rains.
This precipitation, in conjunction with snowmelt and saturated ground conditions will result in higher than normal water levels and flows in local streams. Widespread flooding is not currently anticipated however flooding of low lying areas and natural floodplains may be expected.
Conservation Halton is asking all residents and children to stay away from watercourses and structures such as bridges, culverts and dams. Elevated water levels, fast flowing water, and slippery conditions along stream banks make these locations extremely dangerous. Please alert children in your care of these imminent dangers.
Conservation Halton will continue to monitor stream flow and weather conditions and will issue further messages as necessary.
This Watershed Conditions Statement will be in effect through April 7, 2016.
