Deadline for CFUW Oakville's 2016 University Scholarships approaching quickly

The Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) in Oakville's university scholarship applications are due on April 22, 2016. CFUW-Oakville approves $16,500 annually which cover three main areas of qualifications and study.

Here is a list of the scholarships and prerequisites:

University Entrance Awards – Six Scholarships

Criteria: “A” average, female Oakville resident, Canadian citizen or Permanent resident, attending a publicly funded high school and based on an essay, university entrance and financial need.

  1. Mildred G. Allworth Award – One scholarship – $2000
  2. CFUW-Oakville University Entrance Award – Four scholarships – $1500 each
  3. CFUW-Oakville Performing Arts Award – One scholarship – $1500

Community Service Awards – Three Scholarships

Criteria: “A” or “B” average, volunteer (unpaid and non-credit) service to your community and school, female Oakville resident, Canadian citizen or Permanent resident, attend a publicly funded high school and based on an essay, university entrance and financial need.

  1. CFUW-Oakville Community Service Award – One award – $1500
  2. Shirley Henderson Community Service Award – One award – $1500
  3. Jean Malcolm Smith Community Service Award – One award – $1500

Mature Student Award - One Scholarship

Criteria: Female Canadian citizen or Permanent resident, studying full time at a post-secondary institute in order to re-enter the work force and based on high academic achievement and financial need.

  1. Mature Student Award – One award – $1500

Access Award - One Scholarship

Criteria: a person with a disability and/or a person with a strong interest in this area of study. The award is open to students graduating from high school and entering post secondary, and/or to students already in college or university.

  1. Access Award Inspired by Melissa Vassallo – One Award – $1000

CFUW-Oakville raises funds for these awards through member donations and fundraising events. CFUW-Oakville is a member of the Canadian Federation of University Women and of the International Federation of University Women. The Oakville chapter was founded in 1949 and is a volunteer, non-partisan, non-profit and self-funded organization.
